On This is a story. One to fulfill scriptures. The scripture is Psalms 66: 5"Come and see what God has done, howawesome His works in man's behalf. "
At the Sonshine Community Services Board Meeting in March, the team discussed and wondered out loud how we could get some more space, and what properties in Moose Lake might be available to us at a cost we could afford. We needed space to store, repair, and display furniture and appliances being donated to the Closet in a largervolume all the time. The few pieces we have shown in the present Closet building clutter up and block foot traffic to the rest of the store, But still lots of stuff was being sold.
Numbers were down in May -remember it was opening fishing day also - cool and rainy. We still numbered 182 and that is very good. We would really like to get that up to 200 and more. Food this month included boneless chicken breasts, 3 bottles pop, frozen hard cooked chopped eggs (for egg salad or in potato salad), 60 pails of hard boiled eggs, milk, 1 case of yogurt (Yoplait - 5 each strawberry, blueberry and french vanilla), frozen smoothies,2 pkgs. chocolate chip cookies, roasted almonds, potatoes, 2 boxes ice cream bars, cucumbers and zucchini squash. Not bad for $ 15 - RIGHT!Why don't you come June 11 - 8am and enjoy volunteering and buying a share of food?
A Volunteer AppreciationParty is set for Monday, June 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm in the gym. A meal will be served, along with other fun things. You can sign up at the Food distribution on June 11 or call Don or Marilyn Criley for reservations - 372-8212. We have had coffee or hot chocolate available for volunteers all the time, but beginning in June,Shelia Butterfield has offeredto make coffee and cookies for the participants also. This is something special as they wait to go through the line - also wehave 4 tables of free books (from Sonshine Closet) each month for the people to choose from. This has been well received. Joyce Peterson has willingly accepted the job of registering people on the computer - we will still need Ron's help - but we're gettingbetter each month, I think! We do enjoy this but there's so much to remember and on a computer you have to do everything exactly right, or it doesn't work!We have volunteers from young to old - if you want something to do for a few hours on Saturday,June 11 - come and help us - you will enjoy it very much. Thanks for reading our Sonshine articles each month also - occasionally I forget, but most of the time remember at the last minute.
